Animal Medical West provides the very best veterinary care in Charleston, South Carolina and surrounding areas. Our hospital staff are enrolled in continuing education to stay informed of the latest procedures for your pet.

Meet Our Team!

Mindy Campbell, DVM

Veterinarian / Owner

Mindy is a Charleston native. She attended College of Charleston where she majored in Biochemistry, then continued her education at the University of Georgia where she received her Veterinary degree. Mindy enjoys running, the beach and wakeboarding. She has a beautiful daughter and a handsome son. Her furry children include her Golden Mix Maisey, Yellow Labs Jetty and Jasper, and her cat named Kuz.

Malissa DeHart, DVM

Malissa is from Buffalo, New York originally. She attended Cornell University for her veterinary degree. She enjoys reading and watching the Buffalo sports (mainly football and hockey). Her furry companion is Bubba, a sweet Boxer.

Andrea Leeven, DVM

Andrea is originally from Germany. She attended the University of Georgia, where she received her Veterinary Degree. Andrea loves to read, photography, hiking, gardening and riding her horses. Her furry friends include two kitties, a Powder Puff Chinese Crested, a Saluki and 2 horses.

Dana Morgan

Practice Manager

Dana originally grew up in Charleston and moved to Nevada, England, Hawaii, New Mexico and then Colorado. She began her animal-related career early with a wide range of animals including horses and chimpanzees while working at New Mexico State University and Colorado State Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dana returned to Charleston to be closer to her family and began her experience at Animal Medical West in 1996 as a technician. She is now the hospital manager where she currently strives to make Animal Medical West a place where all animals feel welcome, comfortable, and above all receive the best care possible. Dana has three dogs, a Bluetick Coonhound mix named Cindy, a Redbone Coonhound named Fern, and a Redbone Coonhound mix named Emmy Lou. Dana and her husband have one son. They are on the board of the Carolina Coonhound Rescue and often welcome Coonhound fosters into their home until they find their forever family.

Joann

Head Veterinary Technician

Joann has been working at Animal Medical West since November 2003. She has wanted to work with animals since childhood. Joann graduated from Trident Tech Veterinary Technician Program in 2002. She married in October 2007 and welcomed a boy in 2011 and a baby girl in 2016. She also has two poodles named Pebbles and Belle and a Redbone coonhound named Rey. Joann is a licensed vet tech with a degree from Trident Technical College and oversees externships with current vet tech students, offering a valuable on-job experience for future veterinary technicians.

Xochitl

Veterinary Assistant

Xochitl was raised in Hampton County, SC and graduated from Clemson University in May 2017 with a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and minors in Animal and Veterinary Sciences and Spanish. She has always enjoyed working with and caring for animals.
Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, the beach, and spending time with family.

At home, she has three pets – Molly, Bella, and Bronson

Amie

Pet Groomer

Amie has been grooming pets since 2002 and specializes in cat grooming and hand-stripping. She has dedicated her career to finding the most effective way to groom our feline friends. She lives in Summerville with her husband and three children.

Amie’s goal is to bring continuing education to area groomers and to educate pet owners on proper pet care and maintenance.

At home, Amie shares her home with three cats – Pickle, Tigger, and Roo!

Josh

Kennel Attendant

Josh, known as “Juice” by most of the staff, graduated with a degree in Computer Science from the College of Charleston. His passion then turned from computers to animal care, having worked the last few years in both boarding facilities and in veterinary technician assisting. He loves overseeing dogs at play and hugging Great Danes.

He shares his home with his pet, Kat. They love to hang out and go for long walks on the beach together.

Emma

CSR

Originally from Northern Virginia where she worked at a small animal clinic, Emma moved south to be closer to her parents on Kiawah. Emma works at AMW because she loves to be able to help animals live their best life. Emma has 2 wonderful cats named Tito and Leon and she enjoys reading, video games and going to the beach.

Thomas

Veterinary Technician

Rachel

Rachel says the best thing about working at AMW is the animals and she is not wrong!  Rachel originally started nursing school and decided to change to Veterinary Technician school because of her immense love of animals. Born and raised in Denver, NC, Rachel moved to Charleston to be closer to her family.  Rachel has a leopard gecko named Mushu and she enjoys fishing and helping on her friend’s cattle farm.
